May 29: Buddy Bench Dedication

Student Council held a Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony on Friday, May 29 for their latest project, a Buddy Bench. A Buddy Bench is where students who do not have a friend with whom to play, can sit and a new friend will come their way.

The LES Student Council began raising money to fund the project in February. We sold Val-A Grams for $1 each and raised approximately $300. The students in 4th and 5th grade voted on purchasing a bench made from recycled products. Our bench is made from 640 recycled milk jugs!

It was crafted from a company in Michigan and sent to us in parts. Lexington Town Councilman Ron Williams met with Student Council members before school on two days to put the pieces together and build our Buddy Bench. Because our bench is made from polly products, it will last for years to come.

We also had a second Buddy Bench built for the Kindergarten playground. One of our Student Council Member’s family donated the wood and built the bench! Student Council has enjoyed painting it and it will soon be installed on our Kindergarten playground.
